Dentures and Partials

Partials and Full Dentures in Weston, Toronto, ON

At King and Weston Dental in Toronto, ON, we have many ways of replacing missing teeth. These include implants, bridges, and dentures. Dentures can be divided into partial and full dentures, depending on how many teeth we’re replacing. If we’re replacing an entire row of teeth, we’ll use a full denture. Replacing a few consecutive teeth means needing a partial denture.

Before we begin work on a denture, we’ll tell you all your options here at our dental clinic. The best thing about having many choices is that each person can choose the thing that fits their priorities the most.

Benefits of Dentures

Dentures have benefits that are also present in all restorative options. For example, replacing missing teeth equals having a full and bright smile. Leaving gaps in a row of teeth will lead to problems sooner or later. Teeth might start to shift because they’ll have more space available. Older patients are at risk of malnutrition if they’re incapable of chewing properly.

There are also advantages specific to dentures. Perhaps the most attractive one is that they’re removable. Dental bridges and implants are fixed in place. The only way to remove them would be at the dentist’s office. Dentures, however, can be taken off before you go to bed and put back on in the morning.

Precautions for Dentures

While they’ll let you resume your day to day life without problems, dentures aren’t as hard as natural teeth or implants. Chewing or biting on hard food or objects can break your dentures. You’ll have to take good care of what you eat.

Dentures require special care when you take them off each night. First of all, take them off over something soft in case they slip out of your hands. Don’t clean them using toothpaste and a regular toothbrush. There are special toothpastes and brushes for dentures. Finally, dentures need to be kept moist. That’s not something you need to worry about if they’re in your mouth. At night, however, you’ll need to put them in a glass-covered with water or a denture solution.
